Happy 6 Months!

The boys celebrated their 1/2 birthday with Daddy as he celebrated the Big 3-0! On Daddy's actual birthday, we had lunch with some friends from church. We also had a cookout this past weekend with some "big kids" (mom and dad's friends) and little kids (18-month-old twin friends and a 2-month old). The boys seemed to have a great time!

Here are some of things the boys are up to at the start of 6 months!

Jake:

16 lbs 5 oz

26 1/4 inches

Rolls from back to belly all the time now. He is trying to move and scoot, but for now he just drifts about a foot or two in a diagonal direction.

Can sit "unassisted" for up to about 30 seconds, but still needs some supporting hands close by to catch him when he topples.

Playing with toys requiring him to grab, pull, push, turn objects (as is Charlie). This is fun to watch (and listen to as most involve sound as well)!

Still loves to stand (with help) and look around.

Definitely loves his thumb; right now he favors his left hand.

Overall, Jake is pretty content and generally laid back these days.

Charlie:

14 lbs 3 oz

25 3/4 inches

Rolls from back to belly, and then right back onto his back! He tends to favor one way (to his left), so he is now pretty much able to roll from one side of a room to the other.

Sits in his Bumbo happily and likes to reach out and play with toys in front of him.

Starting to LIKE to be held and LOVES cuddling with a teddy or "Lovie" blanket at naptime. This is definitely a big change from a few months ago!

No longer scratches his head when stressed or nervous. He started some medicine for reflux at the start of the month, so that might be helping! Hooray!

Seems to enjoy and respond to music...at church, at home (we have a radio/I-pod in the nursery), even mom's (not so great) singing. He also seems to like it when Daddy uses the crib as a drum set...this usually gets us some good smiles. :)

Both Boys:

They are both very smiley babies. They smile at mom and dad, grandmas and grandpas, friends, and most of the time, anyone and everyone! (I know this may change as they get older, but it is cute right now.) Jake is starting to reserve his smiles for more familiar faces sometimes, but Charlie is just as grinny as ever. :)

Both boys love going on walks and spending time outside. Thank goodness it is summer!

Sleeping:

Nighttime is still going pretty well. They sleep through the night most of the time, with some exceptions and/or off nights. A typical night is in bed at 7:30-8:00 and up at 5:30-6:00.

They are EARLY risers, and we've tried just about everything to encourage later sleeping...in bed later, earlier, blocking out the sun, waking for an extra feeding, but they just seem to want to get up to see Daddy off to work. So, I guess we'll go with it.

Naptime is improving...hooray! They now take a nap at 8:00, 12:00, and 4:00 (give or take). Usually the first two naps are 1-2 hours, and the last is a short cat nap...which is ok because we hope to go to just two naps in the near future. Mom is super excited about their napping at the same time!

Eating:

We are getting to the fun stage of eating. While still nursing about 6 times a day, they are starting some solids, too! They now have "breakfast" and "dinner" with the family. So far, they have tried the rice cereal, applesauce, green beans, and sweet potatoes. Jake is starting to eat everything in sight and leans forward with a big, open "Ahhhh..." face once he sees the bowl and spoon. Charlie is eating more and more at each feeding, but still likes to play with the food in his mouth quite a bit as there are lots of new textures to explore!

In the next week or two, we hope to add avocado, bananas, and pears. I'm going to try to make a good portion of their food. Though, I'm sure we'll have a mix of "homemade" and jars.

Playing:

The boys are starting to reach for eachother's face, hands, and feet more and more. They are also taking toys away from one another. Usually, this does not cause any drama, but I'm sure that will change very soon!
