Jake is doing really well post-ear-tube surgery. We think we have noticed some real improvement in his hearing and speech, too. His beloved "gee!" (blanket) is now known as "new ba-kee!" (Both boys still call them "new" blankies even though they have had them for at least a few months, now.) He's starting to consistently talk in 2-4 word sentences, and we can usually make out at least one or two of the words. Yesterday, when he woke up from his nap and Charlie was still sleeping, I understood him saying, "Gee-gee u-dar eep-in." Or, "Charlie's upstairs sleeping." Also, he is getting really good at counting to 10. We often (or all the time) have to work on our sharing, so one strategy we use is to count to 10 and then share with brother. Apparently the repetition is helping our counting ability, too.
Charlie is starting to "read" a few parts of his favorite books. And by "read," I of course mean recite a few words from memory. (He can sing the alphabet, but it's still a shot in the dark to actually identify a letter correctly. So actual reading is still a good way down the road.) He does seem to be getting his colors down these days, especially the "rrrrrrred one combine mommy!" Also, he's added an "Okay?" to just about everything he says this week. "Charlie watch Shrek and Donkey now. Okay?" He also likes to narrate his favorite movies (Shrek 2 this week) as he watches. "Here comes horse-y mommy...Ooohhhh, han-some Prince Charming...King having tea now."
