Happy 23 Months!

Jake:

A few Jake-isms for the month:

Mommy up.  Mommy up. (While grabbing my fingers and pulling me up off the couch, floor, chair, etc.)  Then he will show me where he wants us to go.

Gee gee coat.  Daddy coat.  Mommy coat. Jakey coat.

Go doddie.  Go doddie.  (Telling the dog what to do.)

No, no.  Sit down!  ;)  (Aka...mocking mom while he stands on the couch as, apparently, she says this once in a while.)

Light on.  Light off.  (We could do this all day.)

Mommy help you. (Me)

And a number of other words and phrases that we are still trying to translate from Jake-ese into standard English. ;)

Counting:  When we ask Jake how many of something he sees, he'll reply...One!  Two!  One!

Singing:  One recent one we can make out is Woooo body.  ("Hello, Everbody!" while playing the piano.)

I've pretty much decided that Jake has no interest in being a baby.  He wants to do everything just like the big people.  He's much happier with a real fork, a real glass...although he cannot quite use it yet...sitting in a real chair, being held up high so he has an adult view of the world, etc.  He is so motivated to get "up" that he has taken it upon himself to climb...everything.

Charlie:

And some Charlie-isms:

Wow...Awesome!

Where Jakey go?  Oh, der is.

ABCDEFG.....LLLLP.  QRX..W...Z.  Sing with me.  Charlie often sings the alphabet while playing (his version of) the song on the piano.  After a minute, he will usually request, "Mommy do it?"

Counting:  Charlie has correctly counted to 10 a few times lately, usually while pretending to count objects in a book, for example.  However, when he's just counting for"fun," he skips a few numbers and sounds something like this:

1. 2. 6. 7. 89. 10...sometimes with a 13, 16, 17 thrown in for good measure.

Toddlers Out on the Town

Library Class:  During "story time" at the library, Charlie usually now sits (right) in front of the librarian; probably so he can correct her if she happens to call an "ex-ca-va-er" a digger.  (I mean, really.)  I think Charlie is pretty fond of the librarian.  Jake, meanwhile, can typically be found walking the perimeter of the classroom, looking out the window, playing with the doorstop, or sitting on my lap.  Of course, both boys are beyond excited for the bubbles at the end of class and are quite the expert bubble busters.

Music Class:  Similarly, Jake has explored every last corner of our music classroom.  While he rarely "participates" (except for when the instruments come out...then he will make a bee-line for the circle), he is picking up a lot of the songs and will often sing or dance for us at the dinner table.  Meanwhile, Charlie is quite the scene stealer in class.  The other day, he was actually doing the "Tango" during one of the songs where we all got up and danced with scarves.  I kid you not, this kid actually held his scarf just like the teacher with one arm stretched out in Tango style and proceeded to dance across the room just as serious as can be.  Both boys love playing the instruments.  After every song, Charlie will run over to the table where the instruments are kept and excitedly ask, "Drums!?!??!?!"  When we get to play with the sticks, the teacher will let the kids come up with creative ideas for how we can use them.  Charlie likes to pretend they are tractor gear sticks and Jake likes to pretend to use them a Q-tips to clean out his (or my) ears.

Church Nursery:  Big news...the boys are now LOVING staying in the nursery during church.  After battling tears and separation anxiety all summer (and mom and dad getting paged more than once), they are now having a great time playing with their buddies.  Hallelujah.
