16 Months

So thankful for a beautiful Easter Day! Definitely a highlight of this month.

 Jake

From the Mouths of Babes...

Jake is slowly adding a few recognizable words (in addition to some "tongue-y" gibberish) to his vocabulary.  This month, he's started saying "Oh...Oh!" when he drops something on the floor.  His entire face is involved in making the "O" shape. :)  Also, we can now pick out "Ah-pah" and "Co!" pretty regularly when opening and closing book covers, doors, or the window sills in the cardboard house that Daddy made.  When he gets excited, he runs around yelling, "Gar, Gar" which is maybe, "Charlie?"  And, just today he started pointing at Charlie and saying his version of brother's name...I think. ;)

A Few of My Favorite Things

This month, Jake is loving some new "big boy" toys, including a toddler slide and an outdoor water table (though he often tries to drink the water by cupping or dunking his hand(s) into the water and then quickly bringing them to his mouth...followed by a big, "Ahhhh!")  Jake also seems to have cleaning up in his genes.  He continues to "help" around the house with laundry, sweeping the floor, and most recently, he has discovered the joys of the duster.  Oh, if only this could last into the coming years.  Finally, he has a new found love of climbing, but thankfully he has figured out how to slide down off of stairs, chairs, and couches on his belly going feet first.  Maybe someday his "bumper" (head) will be bruise free...

"Other" Tidbits

Jake is now blowing kisses!  His first one was to Charlie at bedtime.  So sweet.  And, on a completely different note, he surprised mom one evening after bathtime by taking a "bop" (see Charlie's explanation below) on the bathroom floor.  To make this image a bit more vivid, picture post-bath, naked-as-a-jaybird bare buns, all while he was swiffering (again with the cleaning) the floor.  Pretty sure he did a little happy dance for us when he was finished.

Charlie

From the Mouths of Babes...

Some of our favorite Charlie-isms from the month would have to be:  "Bir! Bir!" while pointing out birdies, "Mo-mo" whenever he sees Elmo, "Awwll...bee-dup!" after a meal when telling us he is "All done...clean up!" complete with hand motions to go along with cleaning his hands, "Uh-oh, bub-bul" when the bubble container fell off the table, "Mo crak" when he just hasn't had enough crackers, and of course, his enthusiastic proclamation to everyone he sees that his beloved brother is "Deke!"  I don't know how many times he poked Jake in the eye as he excitedly told someone that his brother, is in fact, "Deke!"  A few times he has followed that up with a point to himself, and an explanation that he is, "Zzzarrr."

A Few of My Favorite Things

Charlie loves to "dit" to music.  Recently, he has been requesting to dance first thing in the morning when I get him out of his crib.  He points to the radio on his dresser, does and little shimmy, and says, "Dit!"  He also loves his bubbles.  At our library story-time class on Tuesdays, the teacher always ends with a song and bubbles.  Somehow he knows when we pull into the parking lot for class, because before I can park the car, he is yelling, "Bub-bul...bub-bul!"

"Other" Tidbits

Charlie has just about mastered the art of blowing kisses (without fail to "Deke" at naptime or bedtime) and has moved on to, sometimes, giving a sweet little peck on the cheek.  Melt my heart.  And, again, on the opposite end of the "sweetness" spectrum, he has told us a few times this week that he "bop"-ed in his "di di."  Lovely.
