We closed our eyes for a minute, and suddenly there are two small humans running around the house! When did they stop being babies and turn into little boys? :)

...talk, talk, talk...
Charlie continues to be our little chatter box. He spends most of the day mimicing sounds ("choo-choo" when he hears the train, "vroom" while playing with cars or trucks, "la-la," "ba-ba-ba," "me-me-me" while siging along with a CD from music class or with Elmo "La-la, la-la, Elmo's World"), imitating animals (barking, mooing, meowing, quacking, baa-ing, neigh-ing and whatever it is Curious George does), or speaking words we sort of recognize (some new ones include "ah-wa" or water, "chees" or cheese - oh how he loves his cheese - and "ye-sh" or yes). Oh, and "traccc" for tractor. He actually started saying that one a few months ago, but I thought I should have it on the record that tractor was one of his first words. He also signs for "please" and I'm constantly having to work to figure out what he is asking for..."pleeeease" Mom!
A rare quiet moment ;)
The Social Scene
This little man is a social butterfly! He will pretty much carry on a "conversation" with anyone, complete with an occasional head nod and "yesh" thrown in for good measure. Not sure that he always means it when he says it, but we often find ourselves surprised at his correct responses to our questions. Oh, and the little flirt has learned to blow kisses on command. But, my favorite is, of course, when he will blow a good night kiss to Jake and then to mom and dad as we leave his room at night. Priceless.
On the Move
Charlie is now a walker! We're so excited! He definitley has the Frankenstein look - arms forward in stiff, bracing position - when he ventures off into the middle of the room, but he's getting more steady every day. Go, Charlie, Go!
Both boys are starting to point out things they recognize in their favorite books. Jake loves to find ducks and dogs, and Charlie is finding new things to show us almost daily.

Talk! Talk!
We've definitely heard some first official words this month! Aside from "mama" and "dada," we can add "ba" (ball), "du" (duck), "da" (dog) and "up" to the list. One of the first times I was sure he had said a word on purpose, he had run up to me with a rubber duck in hand shouting, "Du, Du" as if a light bulb had just switched. :) He is also signing for "please" and "drink" now. He'll often come into the kitchen banging his chest (his sign language for please) because he knows that's a good way to get mom to get him a snack.
The Social Scene
His favorite place to be is usually at mom's feet. Whether he is suddenly being shy around new people and hiding behind my legs, or whether he has to "help" me in the kitchen or laundry room, he's my little shadow. However, at the nursery in church, he usually takes on the roll of big brother and tries to convince Charlie to be brave and play with the other kids (little brother is still fighting the tears when mom and dad leave).
Helping "clean" up the playroom.
On the Move
Also this month, Jake is working on his riding skills. He loves hopping on his car or dino toy and has figured out how to use his feet to scootch along. He's also busy finding doors to open and shut (he LOVES opening and closing a bedroom/closet/bathroom door to "surprise" Charlie and I waiting on the other side). He's also on a mission to push every button, pull every lever, flip every switch, turn every knob...that he can find. :)
I Can Do It!
Jake and Charlie both have starting trying to do lots of things themselves this month. For example, in the morning while I'm changing one of their diapers, the other will be over in the closet picking out "ssssocs" or "jooos" (shoes) and trying to put them on their feet. So cute. Today, Jake even managed to get his pants on! Well, sort of...it was only one leg and they were backwards, but a big accomplishment the same. Also, they love to "brush" their teeth all by themselves. We have little kid toothbrushes now, and they get so excited when I get them out after breakfast. Finally, Charlie often helps out with diaper changes by taking a wipe and...well, using it for its intended purpose. Too bad the clean up job usually takes more than just a little "dab, dab."
A few extra pictures of daily activities...
We go through a lot of bananas these days.
Whether it's playing a duet on the piano, or an evening listening to Daddy play his saxophone, the boys seem to be big music fans!
A sweet moment reading together. We'll just pretend that they didn't break out into a little "tiff" two seconds later in a battle for said book. ;)
